How to Build Your Own Car Robot - Part1: Build Chassis

In this series, we will show you how you can use Piper to make your own programmable robot car! Robot cars are made up of three basic modules:

1- A chassis to house the robot components
2- Motors and battery to enable the car to move
3- A controller that allows us to tell the car how to move

In this blog post, we focus on the first module and show you how we can design and build a cool chassis for our robot.

Step 1: Design the chassis

Launch Piper in creative mode and start designing your chassis. This will be later used as your car main body. Your design should be able to at least house a 7x7 cm battery compartment. You should also leave two holes so that the motor wires can go through them.

Step 2: Scan your design

Use the scanner power up as explained in to scan your design into an .obj file, which can be used by the 3d printer software.

Step 3: Print your design

Load the .obj file from /home/pi/piper/game/userData/scans in your Piper to the printer application and start printing!

You now have built the first part of your future robot car! Good Job!! Keep it in a safe place and in the stay tuned for the next post where we'll show you how you can turn it into your own very toy car!! ☺
